We know that surrendering your pet is never an easy choice to make. To help make the process easier and less impactful on your pet, there are a few steps in which a surrender takes place here at the Estevan Humane Society.
Firstly, our intakes are first come first served. We cannot guarantee we will have space. As a No-Kill shelter we strive to keep our capacity at a manageable level, however we do see a great increase in our cat population come the colder months.
All surrenders must be followed through with an appointment. At this appointment we are able to greet your pet and learn the most information about them. After all, our goal is to find them a home that suits their needs!
Things you must include in your surrender package:
-
Your animals medical records; including microchip information, and the name, address and phone number of your current vet
-
Your dog’s toys and belongings (dog bed, blanket, etc.), a supply of dog food and special treats they love (encouraged)
-
An instruction sheet on feeding, special needs, etc. (encouraged)
-
Collar and leash
-
Current ID and rabies tags
We strive for transparency. Please understand that unless your animal is aggressive, it wont be turned away due to its medical conditions. Do keep in mind, there are fees associated with surrendering. These fees go directly to your animals needs.
